G'day and welcome! The story of Newcastle Brickfest A LEGO® Fan Event is a testament to passion, resilience, and a local building community coming together to support sick kids in the Hunter region. Coordinated by Kevin and Angela Evans alongside the dedicated volunteer members of Rainbow Bricks LUG (LEGO User Group), the event has evolved into Regional Australia's undisputed flagship showcase.
Since our first show in 2014, Newcastle Brickfest has weathered lockdowns, venue relocations, and rapid growth, expanding to fill the single-level Exhibition Centre at the Newcastle Jockey Club with over 280 tables of custom LEGO® creations. Over the past 12 years, our builders have shared their passion with tens of thousands of families while raising vital funds for local pediatric health.

2014
Inaugural Show at Broadmeadow PCYC
The very first Newcastle Brickfest was held as a single-day event at the Broadmeadow PCYC 12 years ago. The overwhelming community turnout proved that Newcastle was hungry for a premier, family-friendly LEGO® event.
2015 – 2016
Expansion to a Two-Day Showcase
Due to surging demand, Newcastle Brickfest expanded into a full two-day weekend event. In 2015, the 501st Southern Cross Garrison cosplayers joined for the first time, establishing a beloved character meet-and-greet tradition that continues today.
Broadening Horizons
A New Permanent Home at Newcastle Jockey Club
To accommodate growing crowd sizes and expansive collaborative layouts, Newcastle Brickfest moved to its current home in Broadmeadow at the Newcastle Jockey Club. The column-free venue allowed us to comfortably scale up display tables and interactive play zones.
2020
Connecting Through Virtual Brickfest
When COVID-19 pandemic restrictions made a physical gathering impossible, Rainbow Bricks pivoted online. We ran an interactive Virtual Brickfest stream, keeping the community spirit alive and bringing builder inspiration into homes during tough times.
2021
Heartbreak & Resilience
After months of careful planning, the team came within just one week of opening doors for the physical 2021 show before a COVID-19 outbreak forced a last-minute cancellation. Despite the setback, the community's determination to rebuild was stronger than ever.
2022 – 2025
Triumphant Return & Record Charity Impact
From 2022 onwards, our flagship showcase returned bigger than ever every July. Over these four years alone, Newcastle Brickfest raised over $100,000 specifically for the John Hunter Children's Hospital Kids Club.
September 2026
A Fresh Spring Move to the School Holidays!
In 2026, Newcastle Brickfest moves to its brand-new Spring school holiday dates (26–27 September). Celebrating 12 years since our inaugural event, it brings together over 90 LEGO builders across 280+ tables!

Every single ticket purchased for Newcastle Brickfest directly supports sick kids and their families across Northern NSW. Rainbow Bricks LUG operates as a registered not-for-profit community group, donating 100% of event profits directly to our charity partner, the John Hunter Children's Hospital Kids Club.
Over our history, funds raised from Newcastle Brickfest have helped purchase life-saving pediatric medical equipment and clinical support resources, taking our total lifetime community contribution past a proud $170,000 legacy.
