Stacking Memories: Celebrating World Play Day with Rainbow Bricks!
At Rainbow Bricks LUG, we believe that a simple plastic brick has the extraordinary power to spark imagination, bring people together, and build lifelong friendships. As a not-for-profit community of passionate volunteer builders, our favourite moments are always centred around the simple, pure joy of play. That is why we are incredibly excited to celebrate World Play Day on June 11th!
Why Play Matters: More Than Just a Hobby
Whether you are an Adult Fan of LEGO (AFOL) who has been building for decades or a child picking up your very first DUPLO brick, play is a vital part of keeping our minds creative, our spirits high, and our regional communities connected.
It is more than just a pastime—play is important because it:
- Fuels Innovation: Stepping away from strict instructions lets your mind solve problems organically and explore new, unstructured ideas.
- Builds Resilience: Every time a brick tower topples over or a design doesn't quite work, rebuilding teaches us patience, problem-solving, and determination.
- Brings Balance and Joy: In our incredibly busy lives, dedicating time to pure, hands-on fun reduces stress and gives our minds a much-needed mental break.
For us, building isn't just a hobby—it's play with a purpose and a way to make a real-world difference. Across the Central Coast, Hunter Valley, and Mid-North Coast regions of New South Wales, Rainbow Bricks organises eight high-quality fan events each year. Every single event partners with a local charity, meaning all event profits go directly back into the community, raising over $500,000 in lifetime donations for regional causes.
What We Are Doing to Celebrate
The best way to celebrate the spirit of World Play Day is to experience the creativity firsthand! We are gearing up for a massive calendar of interactive fan events where the community can dive into the joy of building.
Mark your calendars for our upcoming 2026 events and come along to see spectacular collaborative layouts, interact in our build zones, and find your own building inspiration:

How You Can Celebrate World Play Day Today
You don't have to wait for an event to celebrate! Here are three easy ways to bring a little more purposeful play into your life this week:
- Tip out the brick bucket: Dust off your old sets or mixed bricks and build something completely from your own imagination without looking at instructions.
- Build together: Sit down with your kids, a partner, or a friend for a quick 15-minute building challenge.
- Connect with the community: Join us for our regular online catch-ups or monthly LUG meetings to share your latest projects with like-minded builders.
Happy World Play Day from all of us at Rainbow Bricks. Keep creating, keep smiling, and keep stacking!
