The official trailer for LEGO Friends: Heartlake The Musical.
LEGO Friends is heading somewhere new. Heartlake The Musical is the first live-action version of LEGO Friends, and LEGO describes it as its first live-action musical. Real actors, oversized LEGO elements and four original songs bring Heartlake City to life, and the new trailer gives us our first proper look at it.

- Where
- LEGO YouTube channel (free)
- Running time

What it's about
The story follows Daisy, a bright and creative teenager who is adjusting to a big move and looking for somewhere to belong. Daisy builds a world out of LEGO bricks and finds herself transported into Heartlake City, where a music-filled adventure with new friends begins. Daisy is a brand-new character created for the musical.
Executive producer Kenny Ortega has described it as a story about finding your people, embracing who you are, and achieving more when you support each other. That sits nicely with what LEGO Friends has always been about.
The people behind it
There is some serious musical experience behind this one. Kenny Ortega, known for High School Musical, Descendants and Hocus Pocus, is executive producer and came up with the story. His long-time creative partner Paul Becker directed and choreographed it. The script is by Kirk R. Thatcher and Jeremy Adams, with music composed by Charlie Watson.
The film was produced by Final Pixel, whose virtual production technology was used to create Heartlake City around the cast.
The cast
- Jada Langley as Daisy
- Gino Ochello as Leo
- Gracie McGonigal as Autumn
- Hannah Gracie as Paisley
- Danita Walcott-Nicholls as Aliya
- Hamish Skeoch as Olly

Fans of the sets will recognise plenty of familiar Heartlake names in there. Ian Virgo also appears as Daisy's dad, known as "The Brickologist", and Pickle the Dog plays himself.
Where to watch in Australia
The easiest way to watch is on the LEGO YouTube channel, where the full special premieres for free on 16 October. LEGO has also announced broadcast and streaming partners, including Netflix, Peacock, Tubi, RTL and AMC Networks, in selected markets. Australian streaming details have not been confirmed yet, so YouTube is the safe bet.
Unicorn Café pop-ups
Overseas, LEGO is celebrating with screenings and life-size LEGO Friends Unicorn Café pop-ups, including one at Potters Field Park in London in late October, with others planned in the Netherlands, Türkiye, Mexico and the USA. The café is inspired by a location in the musical and by the LEGO Friends Unicorn Dream Café set (42684). No Australian events have been announced so far, but we will share any news if that changes.
Our take
It is great to see LEGO Friends getting such a big, joyful project.
LEGO Friends has a huge following among young builders, and a free musical on YouTube is an easy way for them to enjoy Heartlake City in a whole new way. Will you be watching on the 16th? We would love to hear what your family thinks of it.
