THANK YOU Newcastle! For Building Something Special at Newcastle Brickfest 2026

Thank You Newcastle for helping us Building Something Special: Newcastle Brickfest 2026

What a weekend. Newcastle Brickfest A LEGO® Fan Event 2026 has wrapped up for another year, and on behalf of everyone at Rainbow Bricks LUG, thank you to every builder, cosplayer, volunteer, vendor and visitor who helped make it such a memorable event.

Over two days at Newcastle Racecourse, 2,700 visitors came through the doors to explore nearly 300 tables of fan-built LEGO creations. For many families it has become a school holiday tradition, and for plenty of others it was their very first Brickfest. Either way, it was wonderful to see so many smiles and “come and look at this” moments right across the venue.

An eventful weekend

It was certainly a weekend of contrasts. The first day was a hot one, and the second turned cold and wet, but neither kept the crowds away. We also had a visit from the local Fire Brigade on Sunday afternoon, which added a little extra excitement to the day. Through it all, our organising team was kept busy from early set-up right through to the last table being packed away, and we are grateful to everyone who pitched in along the way.

A huge effort from our exhibitors

None of this happens without our exhibitors. This year, 94 exhibitors travelled from across NSW, the ACT, Victoria and Queensland to share their creations, many of which had been months in the making. From sprawling City layouts and detailed train displays to space scenes, castles and clever original builds, the variety on show was outstanding.

Just a taste of the creativity on show across the hall

We know how much time, planning and packing goes into bringing a display to an event, especially for those who travelled interstate. To every exhibitor who gave up their weekend to share their passion with the public, thank you. Your work is the heart of Brickfest.

The Speed Build and more

Once again, the Speed Build was one of the most popular activities of the weekend. Participants had just three minutes to create something from a pile of random LEGO parts, and the results were as creative as they were entertaining. Think of it as a mini LEGO Masters, with plenty of cheering from the crowd. Elsewhere, the build area was busy from open to close, and our vendors had everything from new sets to retired favourites, so plenty of people headed home with something special.

Find A Minifigure

Our Find A Minifigure competition kept plenty of eagle eyes busy too. Our exhibitors hid the bubble tea minifigure across nearly 300 tables, and the official count came in at 34. The 15 closest guesses each win a small LEGO prize, kindly provided by LEGO Australia. Thank you to everyone who joined in.

Building for a cause

Every Rainbow Bricks event supports a charity partner, and Newcastle Brickfest proudly supports the John Hunter Children’s Hospital Kids Club. Thanks to your ticket purchases, raffle entries and generosity on the day, we will be donating $17,300 to the Kids Club, helping support children and their families during their time in hospital. We are incredibly proud of that result, and it belongs to everyone who came along.

Thank you to everyone who helped

Events like this rely on a lot of people. To our volunteers on the door, in the build area, at the raffle table and through set-up and pack-down, thank you. We would also like to thank our supporters, Newcastle Racecourse, Prestige Wedding & Event Hire, the LEGO Certified Stores and LEGO Australia. Your support helps make Brickfest possible, and we are very grateful to each of you.

What’s next

Planning for 2027 is already under way, and there will be plenty to celebrate. Next year marks our 10th year at Newcastle Racecourse, along with 50 years of Star Wars and 25 years of The Lord of the Rings films, so expect a few special touches from our builders. We are also reviewing feedback from our exhibitors and vendors, including the best time of year to hold the event, so keep an eye on our website and social channels for the date announcement.

In the meantime, catch us every Tuesday night at 8pm on Talk n Sort, live on Instagram and YouTube, or come along to one of our upcoming Brickfest events to see what our builders have been working on.
