The Boutique Hotel, the second largest set in the Modular Building Series, is celebrating the fifteenth anniversary of the Modular Buildings. At $0.12 a piece, it is good value, especially when compared to Disney/IP sets which are often double that price.
The Boutique Hotel was released as part of the Adults Welcome (18+) range, now ICONS.
There are 14 sets of bags, a grey base plate (32×32 studs) and a thick instruction book. The building encompasses a hotel and an art gallery and is a corner modular.
Bags 1 – 6 build the ground floor. The lobby sets the scene with the reception desk, a wall of keys and a completely tiled floor populated by a receptionist and bellhop.
Bags 7-9 – first floor. Features two complete rooms (but no bathroom).
Bag 10 – Patio
Bags 11-13 – second floor is devoted entirely to the penthouse suite, which is well furnished.
Bag 14 – Roof
The espresso cart and barista are the very last thing we build.
Minifigures
The set includes:
- A male and female hotel employee.
- The barista for the coffee cart.
- The woman who runs the art gallery.
Each of the three hotel rooms has a guest, a young woman with a backpack in the smallest room, a businessman with a bowler hat in the medium-sized room, and an older woman on the fancy second floor.
Like other sets in the series, the Boutique Hotel is a fun build that combines with other modulars (or custom MOCs) to create a beautiful cityscape. The set took about 6 hours to build, making it possible to be built in a single sitting, but it is more fun to build over a few days and take in all the details.
