Rainbow Bricks Presents
NEWCASTLE BRICKFEST 2019
A LEGO Fan Event

Rainbow Bricks is excited to be returning again in 2019!

Newcastle Brickfest is Newcastle's first and longest running LEGO Fan event. It’s a community event, created by local volunteer LEGO fans, for LEGO Fans of all ages, showcasing LEGO creations and collections from across NSW.

Once again we are supporting Hunter Schools and Charities with the proceeds from this family friend, community event.

Original creations and displays of LEGO themes will impress and inspire kids of all ages. Interact with the exhibitors, ask them about their displays and LEGO in general. Plus we will have the always popular City Layout back again with working trains. As well as, all the displays, there will be lots of activities for everyone to enjoy on the day.

This year we have added Saturday afternoon sessions for those of you who can’t make it on the Sunday.

We are also being joined by our Cosplaying friends from the Hunter Heroes, the Saurus Squad and Star Wars Characters!

This is a family friend, not for profit event, which has been supporting Newcastle charities. Over the previous 5 years we have been able to donated $50,000 to schools and charities Newcastle Brickfest has supported.

LEGO Activities:

Build Area - An area for the kids to build after being inspired by the exhibitors creations.

Speed Builds - This popular competition returns and will run each hour. You have just 3 minutes and a random selection of parts to build something. What will you create?

Sydney’s New LEGO Certified Store

March 21st, 2019

On Monday night a few Rainbow Bricks’ members were part of the lucky few invited to attend a special AFOL preview night at the new flagship LEGO Store in Sydney. And then this morning a couple of Rainbow Bricks Members attend the opening of the store.

The store is at Westfields Bondi Junction, just down from the Apple Store. We used the trains to get there and it was so much better than driving through Sydney to get to the store.

If you have been into a LEGO store before it has a similar look and style. While not the largest LEGO store, it is on two levels with the PAB and the more adult themes upstairs on the mezzanine level. The front of the store has the latest sets (Mustang and The Flintstones) on display with a small Build Area near them.

The store has a VIP Program from opening which is redeemable at the Sydney store only at the moment. The program is 1 points for every $1.50 spent. Works out to be 5% or $5 for every $100 spent, but need 100 points and get $7.5 credit, which is not bad.

The Pick A Brick Wall wasn’t fully stocked on the Monday night but still had lots of nice parts. The wall has since been completely stocked. The PAB wall is up the stairs at the back of the store, there is also a lift for those with mobility issues and it’s painted in a LEGO theme. The stairs have a short History of LEGO painted on the walls.
Small cup are $14.99 and large cups $29.99.
The wall was very popular on Monday night with the AFOLs in attendance. Lots of cups were filled! 😃 And I’m should this will continue now the store is open. It’s a great way to bulk up on parts.

There were no polybags other than the Xtra polybag to buy and no seasonal sets currently either. Hopefully this will be addressed now the store is opened. The engraving machine wasn’t setup yet either.

The Build A Minifig station was down stairs. You can build your own custom miniiigure using the elements available. The night we were there it had some nice parts in it. These parts will change as elements come and go out of stock.

Of course, there are LEGO brick-built statues and murals on display, as well as many sets. See the photos to see what the store has.

The opening day exclusive was the LEGO Brand Retail Store Set (40145) when you spend $199 or more in store.

The store charges full RRP for Sets but it’s expected to have all sets available as soon as they released by LEGO, which is great. Definitely sign up for the VIP program as it will help to save money on future purchases. The store is also expected to have polybags and other sets not normally available here through the other retailers.
