Show Review: Newcastle Brickfest 2017

NEWCASTLE BRICKFEST 2017
A LEGO Fan Event
Presented by Rainbow Bricks

July school holiday means Newcastle Brickfest and this year we returned to our new bigger [huge] venue at the Newcastle Racecourse. It was a perfect family event with something for all members of the family.

Once again we supported Newcastle schools and charities.

It was our largest Brickfest with 55 exhibitors and 150 tables of displays for you to enjoy. That was double the size of last year’s event. There were original creations and collaborations as well as displays of LEGO sets for children of all ages. Including Star Wars USC, Duplo, Minecraft and our LEGO City layout. The exhibitors are came from across NSW to show you their creations.

Like everything else about this year’s Newcastle Brickfest our city layout was our largest and most ambitious to date. It measured over 12m long and included a LEGO version of Kooragang Island [coal loading port in Newcastle NSW] with it’s Bucket Wheel Excavators and a visit from the MV Drake, previously known as the Pasha Bulker! There was a working coal train based on trains that work in the Hunter Valley. This build was a combined build with 15 exhibitors contributing to it and was months in the planning. It also included  working trains and a monorail along with a train turntable. We estimate that it had over 500,000 bricks in the build.

We had new and old favourite activities for the children and adults a like to try and enjoy.
- A new activity we had this year was the Speed Builds. Each person had 3 minutes to build something from a random selection of bricks.
- Another new activity this year was the LEGO RC Racing. We have an oval track with 4 LEGO sets 42065: RC Tracked Racer to race around our track.
- We are also introduced “Find the Minifig” this year for all the family. Across our exhibits there was be a number of Faun Minifigs hiden.
- As always there was a build area for the children to create something after seeing the exhibitor’s displays. However this year we had some display tables for the children to display their creations on so other can enjoy them too.

We were also joined by the always popular Star Wars and Superhero Cosplay characters.
