REVIEW: LEGO City 60171 Mountain Fugitives

February 1st, 2018

Theme: LEGO City
Set Number: 60171
Set Name: Mountain Fugitives
RRP: AUD$15.99
No. of pieces: 76
No. of Minifigs: 4
Year of release: 2018
This set is suitable for ages 5-12.

Arrest the crooks and recover the hidden loot!

Over the last few years LEGO have produced a number of these sets often refered to as "Starter" sets becuase they usually contain 4 minifigs and some small builds. In this set there are 2 police and 2 crooks. The set also features a buildable tree hideout with space for loot, moving greenery and a beehive. The beehive fits over the minifgs head. :-). It also has a buildable police ATV with bubble light, off-road tires and a chain element. Plus there is a log for the crooks to ride the river on. These builds are solid little builds that have been kept simple for the age group they are aimed at [5-12 years]. The tree has a hidden storage area which is covered by a leaf at the foot of the structure and the beehive hangs underneath the tree branches. Move the small foilage away and you can access the gold.

The 4 minifigs included in the set are 2 Mountain Police and 2 crooks. There is a female policeofficer who has a cap and ponytail and a female crook who has a backpack which the gold bars go in. The male crook has two printed faces. One is angry and the other is scared [running from the beehive!]. The male poiceofficer has a helmet for riding the ATV. Of these can all be changed around.

What sets this set apart from some of the other "Starter" sets is it includes a number of new/interesting parts such as "Log top" printed tile, the gold bars [you can never have enough of those!] and of course, the beehive! The beehive makes this set worth getting.

These sets are great for many reasons. They are generally good value for money. They are a good introduction to LEGO City and LEGO in general but they are also a great way to build up your minifigs or create a small scene in a larger build. If you are able to get one of these sets from Kmart currently they are AUD$10 which makes them great value for money!

Front Page Coverage!

January 28th, 2018

For our first event of 2018 "Brickfest at The Bay" which also happens to be Rainbow Bricks' longest running event because it was the first event we ever organised back in 2011. We achieved something we have never done before which was to be featured on the front page of the newspapers!

We have had lots of articles in magazines and newspapers about our events over the years which we are appreciate but never the front page. Now I know it's not a major newspaper and it was a quiet news period but still it was crazy to see our event featured on the front page!

The event was a great success with more people over 2 days than we normally get over the 4 days we usually run it. And we are competing with the many beautiful beaches in the area which is why we have some many tourists plus the hot weather [35 and 40 degrees over the weekend]. Whether it was the front page, new location or all the other advertising that drew them in I can't say but it was still fun with lots of great feed back from both our exhibitors and the public.

BRICKFEST AT THE BAY 2018

The weekend and the event were a great success despite the heat! Thank you to everyone who braved the heat especially on the Sunday.

This year the proceeds from the event supported the Tomaree High Robotics Team.

There were lots of new exhibits and lots for the family to do. We had exhibitors from across NSW displaying their amazing creations as well as some old favourites like the LEGO City Layout.

Plus the Speed Build Competition which was full every time we ran it. It was so popular we had to run it twice on a number of occasions.

The Action Club ran the BBQ and drinks and they support local community projects.

Tell your friends and family and we look forward to seeing you at Brickfest at The Bay in 2019.
