REVIEW: Newcastle Brickfest 2018

July 22nd, 2018

Newcastle’s Largest LEGO Fan Event, Newcastle Brickfest, was back on Sunday 15th July at the Newcastle Racecourse and was it huge!
We had more exhibitors than ever before with 60 from across NSW and Victoria joining us to display their cool creations and collections.

It was a great day out for the family with lots of families there enjoying the beautiful winters day plus grandparents out with the grandkids and even a few adults there for themselves.

There was displays for everyone to enjoy. With old favorites like Star Wars to the new Technic Bugatti Chiron and other themes such as Friends and Disney on display as well. The feedback from our hard working volunteers was everyone had heaps of fun!

The city layout was our largest ever and most ambitious yet! The massive 28 table LEGO Rainbow City Layout featured a street circuit race, the Rainbow City 500. This was a LEGO version of the Newcastle 500 which runs in Newcastle each November. Our LEGO version featured a pit lane with teams from Friends and Ferrari to name a couple. On the track we had other Speed Champion sets racing around the circuit. The track also featured a number elements the real tracks has with the final hairpin including a crash by the beach, a section through the built up streets and even a band playing.

There was also a fairground with lots of rides including a working roller coaster! It included a working Ghost Train to carry passengers around the layout.

And that was only half the city layout! The other sections featured another city section with many original MOCed modulars and some LEGO modular sets. Plus a large train hub and a even a LEGO version of Stockton Bridge.

This year our cosplaying friends returned with their own area which featured some cool backdrops and displays including a Speeder and Captain America's Cap-cycle to name a couple.

As well as all that there was lots of other activities to do for the kids such as the always popular Brick play area, Remote control driving area, Colouring In Competition, Speed Build Competitions, Find A Minifigure Competition and a LEGO Raffle.

Thank you to everyone who came along and helped to make the day a great one and we look forward to seeing you again.

Of course we will be back again in the 2019 July School Holidays!! :-)
