Rainbow Bricks visits the South Pole!

March 5th, 2017
Real Pistenbully
This is the real Pistenbully with a downward-looking radar to check for hidden crevasses in the snow that vehicles might fall into.

Rainbow Bricks visits the South Pole!

Well not exactly. We have two Brothers (Tim and Jeremy) who are Rainbows Bricks members and they have been fortunate enough to have one of their builds taken to the South Pole for the Winter!

Here is their story which they have kindly shared with us:

"This year we had a unique opportunity for one of our creations to be taken to the South Pole to spend the winter there. We only had 2 days notice to design, build, and pack this vehicle to be taken on its epic journey.

The vehicle is a called a Pistenbully and this one features a radar mounted on a tire that hangs out in front of the vehicle. This downward-looking radar looks down into the snow and checks for giant hidden crevasses that the South Pole vehicles might fall into.

We created a Lego replica as best as we could in only two days, and we're thrilled with the photos that have been sent back. The people at the South Pole are locked in for the winter so we won't see this again for another 8 months, but when we get it back, we'll take it to our Lego exhibitions to teach kids about the South Pole.

I've put some details in the comments for each photo. Enjoy!"

Great work guys and we look forward to seeing your South Pole display at our Rainbow Bricks events when the LEGO model returns in 2018!

LEGO 10255 Assembly Square Mirror Image Speed Build

March 2nd, 2017

SET NUMBER: 10255

NAME: Assembly Square

Parts: 4,002

Over a couple of weekends we built the new modular set from LEGO, 10255 Assembly Square. This is the 10th Anniversary modular.

We spent about 12 hours building the set and there are lots of great details and build technics. As well as many new elements and old elements in new colours.

To make the building different to most others we decided to build it mirror image. This was not an issue apart from one peiece [part of the stairs] which needed a different part to what was supplied and we didn't have the right one either. But it was easily fixed and is interior so no one will see it when the build is on display.

The second modification made after the build was completed was to spread the build over 2 base plates. This makes the modular easier to fit into Rainbow Bricks city layouts for RBL events.

There are great details in each of the different shops, offices and apartments.
